THE WIND THAT SHAKES THE SUGAR CANES to compete in Olympia

In its World Premiere, Ebrahim Ashrafpour’s debut feature film, THE WIND THAT SHAKES THE SUGAR CANES, enters the competition section in the 25th Olympia International Film Festival for Children and Young People (December 3rd to 10th, 2022 / Greece).

Depicting the conditions of children living in the times of protest and strike, THE WIND… follows the story of Younes, a boy in love with football and FC Bayern Munich with high hopes of being accepted in a trial and spending his life in the game. But when his dad is accused and arrested as the leader of protesting workers who started the fire in the Haft Tappeh Sugarcane Argo-Industry Company, Younes has no way but to stop daydreaming and start searching for the truth. Needless to say, Haft Tappeh workers have been protesting against the exploitative system, disregarding their rights and demands for years.

Through a problematic drama, Ashrafpour pays homage to some of the most memorable children’s films which marked milestones in the formation of New Iranian Cinema and returns to the origins of the cinematic movement with some neorealistic touches.
