Synopsis:
Manzar, an ageing, fundamentalist woman, is deserted by her family. Her sister, Monir, calls her after two year, telling her that her daughter is arrested for not wearing hijab and asking for her help to get the girl out of the prison. Even under the pressure, coming from her children and grandchild, Manzar is sticking to her beliefs as she thinks that her niece has to be punished for the sin she’s committed. Haunted down by fear and trembling, Manzar hopes that her prayers would be accepted so that she would depart before the dawn…

Directors’ Profiles:
Manijeh Hekmat
Born in 1962, Manijeh Hekmat is one of the prominent figures in political cinema in Iran. In 1995, she started her film career as a producer. In 2002, Hekmat directed her debut feature, WOMEN’S PRISON, on the situation of Iranian women prisoners. The film was premiered in Venice. In 2007, her second film, THREE WOMEN, was shown in more than 80 international film festivals starting with Berlinale. In 2020, she made a spectacular comeback to the festival circuit with her 4th feature film, BANDAR BAND, participating in Toronto, Zurich, Mill Valley, Bosphorous, Hainan, etc. and winning the main award in Kolkata.

Faeze Azizkhani
Born in 1982 in Tehran, Faeze Azizkhani studied cinema and completed the courses in Abbas Kiarostami’s workshops. In 2015, Azizkhani wrote, directed and invested her debut feature film, FOR A RAINY DAY, benefitting from the presence of Abbas Kiarostami as the advisor. Her second feature film, THE LOCUST, participated in SXSW 2022, Edinburgh 2022, Vancouver 2022, Sao Paulo 2022, Karlovy Vary 2023, etc.
