19 in Religion Today
In the 25th Religion Today Film Festival (September 14th to 21st, 2022 / Italy), Manijeh Hekmat’s 19 is the sole Iranian feature film included in the program.
19, an Iranian – German coproduction, directed by Iranian prominent woman filmmaker, Manijeh Hekmat (WOMEN’S PRISON, THREE WOMEN, BANDAR BAND), was premiered in the main competitive section of Kolkata IFF 2022.
The film is a personal journey into the Iranian modern history in the times of COVID, using an innovative way of filmmaking during the lockdown: combining the videos the actors have made with their cell phones, the sequences cinematographed by a very small crew in an apartment and archival and personal footages to delve into the labyrinths of life and death, love and war, and creativity and conformity.
